On Oct. 17, 2009, CAPA held a successful roundtable meeting with SINOPEC delegates at the conference room of the American First National Bank in Houston. The half-day meeting started at 9:00 AM and was moderated by Dr. David Chen, Vice President of CAPA. The theme of this meeting was project management for E&P fields in the oil and energy industry. More than 20 CAPA’s members have attended the roundtable discussion.
Dr. Xin-Gong Li, Present of CAPA, gave a warm welcome to the delegates at the beginning. Dr. CJ Liu then introduced SINOPEC delegates to CAPA’s members. After the introduction, Mr. Yong Zhang, Vice-Director at Oilfield E&P Department at SINOPEC, gave an overview of recent developments of SINOPEC. During the meeting, four senior CAPA members delivered brief presentations regarding project management of the E&P fields in the oil and energy industry. The first presentation was given by Dr. Alfred Liaw from Anadarko. His presentation was focused on project management models of mid-size corporations. Dr. Jie Huang, currently working for Hess, then introduced geosciences project management systems used by major oil companies. Finally, Dr. Ben Wang and Dr. Chang Wang shared their experiences on the project management systems used at Chevron.
After the presentations, SINOPEC delegates and CAPA members broadly exchanged their ideas and experiences on many aspects such as the evaluation indicators for projects, decision making for appraisal wells, and resolving conflicts among departments, etc. Due to SINOPEC delegates’ tight schedule, the roundtable meeting was closed at noon with a pleasant atmosphere. In summary, this meeting attains a great success in knowledge exchanging between SINOPEC and CAPA. CAPA is looking forward to future meeting with SINOPEC and other companies in the future.
